Restoration Plan

The property contains large disturbed areas at elevations suitable for restoring critical endangered species habitat for both the federally endangered West Virginia northern flying squirrel and the federally threatened Cheat Mountain salamander.
Past disturbances resulted in the removal of forest canopy and re-vegetation of openings with grass cover and pine plantations. Because this disturbed area is above 3600 feet in elevation and immediately adjacent to existing occupied habitat, conditions are ideal for restoring and expanding habitat back to a red spruce–
mixed hardwood forest community. Restoration efforts could potentially triple the critical habitat for federally listed threatened and endangered species at this site.
